ANNULAS by Mary Donovan
Steel, Glass & Aluminum

ANNULAS is a commanding contemporary sculpture that investigates cycles, continuity, and the tension between completion and interruption. Anchored by a monumental steel arc, the work suggests an incomplete ring—an annulus—hovering in a state of suspended resolution. This open circular form becomes both frame and focal point, inviting contemplation of wholeness, rupture, and renewal.
Vertical aluminum elements introduce a strong structural core, while delicate glass components descend through the composition, adding fragility, light, and subtle movement. The contrast between the weight of steel and the transparency of glass creates a layered dialogue between permanence and impermanence. Industrial finishes are softened by rhythm and proportion, giving the piece a quiet, architectural elegance.
Mary Donovan’s ANNULAS reads as both mechanical and meditative. Its scale and vertical presence make it a powerful statement sculpture, well suited for galleries, public-facing interiors, and collectors drawn to abstract works that balance strength, vulnerability, and conceptual depth.
